Assembly Department Assistant Manager

Position Profile


Reports To: Assembly Department Manager FLSA Status: Full-Time Exempt

Summary

The Assembly Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting in all daily operations and tasks within the Assembly department, including but not limited to; quality, production volume, training, and organizational goals as set forth by the Assembly Department Manager. The Assembly Dept. Assistant Manager is also responsible for providing daily progress reports to the Assembly Department Manager.

Position Details

The primary responsibilities and areas of impact of this position include, but are not limited to:

Assembly

  • Assist the Assembly Manager in achieving monthly quality and production volume goals.
  • Coordinate with Assembly Manager to effectively and efficiently manage the flow of product in and out of the Assembly Department.
  • Maintain an overall 95% or better department grade each month for checked bicycles.
  • Assist the Assembly Manager with yearly setup/tear down, maintenance, training, and daily operation of all Erik's snow tuning equipment.
  • Assist the Assembly Manager with the maintenance and repair of retail parts washers and air compressors
  • Assist the Assembly Manager with the preparation of lease program product and equipment


Security

  • Assist the Assembly Manager with the management of assembly tools, supplies, and parts tracking.
  • Monitor bicycle tagging for accuracy.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to maintain cleanliness and safety within the Assembly Department, including but not limited to secure cardboard and trash removal.


Warranty

  • Follow Warranty Department guidelines to identify and rectify model specific; quality, fit, finish and safety concerns and/or issues before bicycles are stored and readied for distribution.
  • Accurately complete warranty data entry. Includes, but not limited to, completion of warranty forms, computerized inventory, bay location, and running issues log.


Developing Staff

  • Continually coach staff to improve teamwork, assembly techniques, and production ratings.
  • Coordinate with the Assembly Manager to implement assembly training programs and certifications for all new hires and experienced staff. This includes bicycle and ski/winter products and services.
  • Assist the Assembly Manager with the training and certifying of all new hires during the 2-week new hire training program.
  • Track and monitor the performance of Assembler and Tech Experts. Collaborate with the Assembly Manager to adjust staff levels to seasonal business needs. Duties may include hiring, firing, progress reports, training plans, and seasonal layoff recommendations.
  • Promote Erik's mission, values, and standards.

Position Requirements

Experience

  • One year of equivalent experience as a Bicycle Assembler, Bicycle Mechanic, or Mechanic/Technician in a comparable industry. Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.

Schedule

  • Full time availability for both first and second shift. Early mornings, nights, and weekends required seasonally.


Skills

  • High level of mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills.

Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills, coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong customer service focus, every bicycle assembled and checked has a potential customer!
  • Ability to manage, inspire and lead a team.
  • Solid understanding of bicycle repair and maintenance.
  • Proficient with computers and technology. Including spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Dedication to get the job done, and the ability and drive to work extra or extended hours when the department goals require so.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain Erik's lift and forklift certification
  • Ability to acquire and maintain insurance and fleet program approval to operate Erik's company vehicles.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to be mobile and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks with hands, not limited to, but including hand tool use.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs overhead repeatedly throughout the workday while utilizing appropriate equipment and safety techniques.
