About the Lazard Climate Center

The Lazard Climate Center is a unique initiative to explore the effects of climate change on capital markets, company valuations, and corporate transactions across a broad spectrum of industries and geographies. By unifying the rigor and depth of academic research (through collaborations with leading scholars from MIT, Harvard, Columbia, and Imperial College) with the institutional experience and excellence of Lazard’s financial advisory practice, the Climate Center offers differentiated and tailored guidance as companies navigate the global climate transition.

The Center has three primary functions: research, thought leadership, and commercial advisory. Research is the linchpin of the Center’s operations. The initiative seeks to fill a crucial gap by focusing on quantifiable firm-level implications of climate change rather than sectoral or national trends. Some recent examples of studies include:

  • Pricing the valuation discount rate for firms based on greenhouse gas emissions
  • Evaluating the impact of carbon emissions in M&A transactions
  • Assessing the evolving role of carbon offsets in firms’ climate transition plans

The Center utilizes research findings to directly advise clients on climate transition related matters, including, climate risk, decarbonization strategies, net-zero commitments, greenhouse gas disclosure, ESG accretive transactions, clean tech investments, and carbon offsets.
