Our Resilience, Energy, and Climate Change Advisory team in Bristol and Cardiff is a trusted adviser for strategy, policy and action on climate change, resilience and low carbon energy and a leading consultant in the planning, design and delivery of low carbon infrastructure. The team has a strong, shared commitment to a low carbon, sustainable and more resilient future.
We are a multidisciplinary group of engineers, scientists, analysts, and consultants working across scales from high level strategy and policy development through to feasibility, design, procurement and due diligence. We work in a range of sectors, with a focus on cities, energy, water and transport.
We have a new opportunity for an experienced, intelligent and committed Consultant to bring experience of climate change, to develop and manage related research, analysis, facilitate engagement with partners and act as lead author for reports.
Role
As a consultant you will work as part of a peer group of specialists and project managers, supported by a strong and diverse team of consultants and senior leaders. The role requires strong content knowledge in the field of climate change and the built environment, together with a sound understanding of qualitative/quantitative analysis and excellent report writing and communication skills. The role requires strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships with others.
The scope of work of the team includes climate change impact and risk assessment; organisational resilience assessment and strategy development; research and analysis of climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience action to develop robust evidence bases to inform decision making; modelling of energy, emissions, costs, revenues and related data to inform climate change and sustainability strategies; and more.
Your role will include:
- Analysis and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data
- Preparing and delivering compelling client- and public-facing reports
- Developing comprehensive strategies and policy recommendations
- Preparing and delivering presentations and/or training to client teams and stakeholders
- Active participation in knowledge and skills networks within Arup and the wider professional community.
- Contributing to the corporate sustainability of Arup as a firm.
Requirements and skills
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree. We would prefer qualifications which demonstrate multi-disciplinary and strategic problem solving. Other relevant qualifications will be considered.
- Experience and track record in at least one of: climate change strategy and policy, carbon/GHG modelling, climate change mitigation strategy and carbon management, climate change risk assessment, climate change adaptation and resilience planning, sustainable urban design, greenhouse gas measurement/modelling.
- Experience and track record in at least one of the following sectors: public sector/cities, water, urban development, rail or highways.
- Understanding of the principles of sustainability and climate change and its relationship to the planning, design and operation of the built environment.
- Experience of quantitative/qualitative data analysis and a track record of producing compelling insights and findings from analysis, i.e. the “so what?” from complex data sets.
- Experience with writing and editing technical and non-technical reports
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
- Experience working in a relevant field of consulting. Other relevant experience in a specialist advisory role will be considered
- Project and commercial management experience, including project planning and budgeting.
- Experience of preparing commercial bids / bid responses, winning work etc.
- Knowledge of current UK climate and energy policy and legislation
- Experience in a client-facing role
