Optical Systems Engineer Responsibilities
  • Influence cross-functional teams of engineers and managers to drive the development and delivery of robust optical systems.
  • Collaborate with external industry partners to develop and mature state-of-the-art technologies (e.g. material, process, metrology, and design).
  • Develop, execute, and track plans with all team members and communicate plans and updates with stakeholders, while aligning project schedules.
  • Create plans and manage execution for the evaluation of prototype optical systems.
  • Display effective organization skills and manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities.
  • Define optical interface specifications and requirements for assembly and subassemblies of optical sub-systems.
  • Create plans for the testing of components and sub-systems as the units become available and as metrology tools become available, prioritize testing and organize technician’s or engineer’s time on the testing of said tool and given samples.
  • Bring real-world product development experience rigor to subcomponent test specification, and analytical review of performance and metrology data.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience reviewing geometric optical systems in CAD tools such as Zemax, Code V or others. Experience in both sequential and non-sequential ray tracing, including stray light analysis.
  • BS in the field of Engineering, Physics or Optics or related field. 6+ years of experience in developing and integrating optical sub-systems with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with the specification of optical tolerances.
  • Experience in opto-mechanical integration and system design.
  • Experience in optical metrology.
  • Experience with Radiometry and Photometry.
  • Experience working in an optics lab environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and modeling geometric optical systems in CAD tools such as Zemax, Code V or others.
  • Experience with Monte Carlo optical tolerancing.
  • Experience in Design for manufacturability (DfM) with proven track record of high-volume production.
  • 10+ years of experience in developing optical systems with multi-disciplinary teams.
