Orway Mineral Consultants (OMC) is a metallurgical consultancy providing a range of services to the mineral processing community. Founded 40 years ago, OMC is considered a world leader in comminution (crushing & grinding) and hydrometallurgy and has become highly regarded within the industry.
Due to our involvement in a number of new projects and studies, we are currently recruiting for experienced Metallurgists to join our Perth based team.
Reporting to the Principal Metallurgist, this role will involve but not be limited to the following duties:
The tasks you'll perform:

  • Designing and managing test work programs, and interpreting the information in context of its geological descriptions;
  • Preparing models of crushing and grinding circuits using in-house power based, JK SimMet breakage rate based programs as well as commercial crusher modelling packages including Bruno and Plant Designer;
  • Selecting optimal comminution configuration and deriving appropriate equipment sizes and specifications;
  • Making judgements on power efficiency and suggest ways of improving the operation of the circuit.
  • Maintaining OMC’s comminution and plant survey databases;
  • Analysing operating data and providing guidance to operations;
  • Facilitating comminution circuit surveys and simulating circuit improvements;
  • Utilising MillROC to facilitate online circuit mass balances and real-time modelling, as well as setting up and monitoring circuit KPI dashboards, trends, and visualisations;
  • Commissioning and post-commissioning assistance to clients, as required.

The expertise you'll bring

  • Degree qualifications in Extractive Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering
  • Demonstrated success in minerals processing
  • Ideally 3-10 years processing plant experience with specific focus on optimisation and continuous improvement
  • Exposure to comminution (design, commissioning and/or operations)
  • SAG Milling or HPGR experience
  • Gold, battery minerals and/or flotation plant experience.
  • High level computer skills.
  • Statistical data analysis skills will be an advantage.
  • Experience with data visualisation software (PowerBI, Grafana, Tableau) and programming skills (Excel VBA, SQL, Java) will be advantageous.
  • High attention to detail and problem solving skill
  • Proven time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
