Apple is looking for optomechanical process engineer to join Panel Process and Optics (PPO) module team. Engineers in the PPO-module team are responsible to develop new innovative manufacturing process technologies and equipment system designs to solve complex design challenges that have direct impact to future product, quality, and delivery of Apple Displays & Touch. This will be a technical lead role where the individual in this role will work closely with product design engineers, optical design engineers, software developers, project managers, validation engineers, operations, and suppliers to develop methods / stations / tools to support display module assembly and calibration from the concept/architecture definition stage through product engineering validation builds. We work at a fast pace and require everyone to be highly self-motivated. The individual should demonstrate strong ability to continuously develop personal knowledge and expertise in new technology for optical device calibration, assembly process design, manufacturing, and scalability.
Key Qualifications
- Optomechanical background with strong working knowledge of high precision alignment process development of imaging optical assemblies.
- 8+ years of experience designing and deploying high precision assembly tools and processes for optical/imaging devices
- Experience in design of high precision alignment mechanisms, motion control systems, automated dispensing.
- Knowledge of image processing, MTF, contrast, geometric distortion, etc.
- Experience working with equipment vendors and contract manufacturers
- Experience in designing for low particle environments/cleanrooms
Description
• As in-house expert drive end-to-end discussions on module assembly process down-selection, prototyping, equipment & tooling needs for high precision assembly meeting mechanical, optical and reliability requirements. • Participate in DFM reviews and drive process related decisions as related to display module assembly, high precision alignment including optical active alignment. • Drive FMEA, failure analysis, tolerance analysis, gauge R&R, GD&T activities supporting product scalability. • Support process validation studies and proof-of-concept display module builds • Work closely with external equipment manufacturers, part suppliers, integrators to support technology deployment and product development. • Design systems for automation integration & high-volume production environments • Apply engineering knowhow in the areas of optics, precision mechanism design & motion control • Document best practices, SOPs, and cost models by working closely with various cross functional teams.
Education & Experience
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
