Plant Metallurgist

29Metals has an exciting opportunity for a motivated Plant Metallurgist to join our Golden Grove Operations team. Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, this permanent position will be offered on an 8 days on, 6 days off FIFO roster, with a convenient 1-hour flight to the Golden Grove Mine Site in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia.

Golden Grove is a dynamic base metal operation which produces three main mineral concentrates, copper, lead and zinc. The concentrator has recently undergone an upgrade to sequentially produce three separate concentrates from a single feed stream. A gravity concentration stage is also employed to produce a gold and silver concentrate. The complexity of the different processing routes provides a highly challenging and rewarding experience with many interesting metallurgical projects, commissioning and optimisation opportunities to make a real difference.

Job Requirements:

The successful candidate will be able to:
  • Provide technical input to operational personnel to optimise plant throughput, recovery and concentrate grade performance to achieve or exceed budget targets.
  • Take full accountability of the metallurgical accounting system.
  • Complete 13-week production forecasting.
  • Identify and implement process improvement projects.
  • Develop, manage and/or execute laboratory testwork programs.
  • Manage OSA Courier during periods of metallurgical technician absence.
What we are looking for;
  • Tertiary Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy Science
  • 2+ years site-based post graduate experience in a base metal's metallurgical role
  • Thorough understanding of processing production planning
  • Good understanding of sampling theory and practise
  • Able to identify, plan, lead/manage, track and report on projects
  • Experience with complex metallurgical accounting systems
  • Competent with OSIsoft PI historian with program administrative experience
  • Previous concentrator experience, including crushing, grinding, gravity, flotation, dewatering (thickening, pressure filtration)
  • Competent with metallurgical laboratory practices and equipment including screen sizing, laser sizing and flotation tests.
  • Must have excellent attention to details
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication to deliver information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
  • Well-developed Excel and VBA programming skills would be highly regarded
  • Current WA 'C' class driver's license.
