Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced research nurse to join the team at NSFT for 4 days (30 hours per week). The role will work within the clinical research nursing team to support set-up and delivery of national clinical trials and other intervention studies, focused on mental health and dementia care.

The post holder will be expected to work across the community and within clinic space within Norwich. This is a 12-month fixed term post funded by the Clinical Research Network initially, with the expectation that this will be extended. The successful candidate will have prior experience of working in NHS clinical research in acute or community settings, and will bring skills such as phlebotomy, medication, and trial management to the role. Candidates who have worked in mental health or neurodegenerative settings previously will be encouraged, but training will be provided. Experience of leading on the delivery of research studies and knowledge of Commercial trials will be an asset.

Main duties of the job

You will be helping to support the delivery of the portfolio of high quality NIHR research. On a daily basis you will be responsible for all aspects of the research process including but not limited to: assessing participant suitability for trials; screening and recruiting research participants; obtaining informed consent, performing study procedures, working with research teams and managing study data. A crucial aspect of the role is to provide a holistic and person-centred care approach to participants and their family supporters in a respectful, empowering way.

It is also essential that you can independently plan and prioritize your complex workload in order to meet performance targets and deadlines. In order to experience a rewarding career in research we will encourage you to take advantage of the leadership opportunities for developing yourself within the team and the wider Trust.

Working for our organisation

The successful applicant will work as part of a clinical research team alongside study research professionals at NSFT and universities, Trust senior managers and service user and carer representative colleagues.

Within the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust we are dedicated to the on-going improvement of services across the lifespan and recognise the importance of research, evaluation and development in this process. The successful applicant will join a nationally-nominated multi-disciplinary clinical research team which specialises in developing and delivering programmes of collaborative mental health and dementia research.

The team offers opportunities for skill and professional development, and is ideal for someone who is keen to develop a future career in clinical research, or is seeking experience in health service delivery.

FOR POSTS WITH DIRECT SERVICE USER CONTACT - Please be advised that due to recent changes in the DBS Service, organisations no longer receive copies of DBS Disclosures – these are sent directly to candidates only. Therefore, it will be your responsibility, if successful, to ensure that this is taken to the appointing officer as soon as you receive it.

Alternatively, if you have subscribed to the update service, we will be able to check your status once we have your authority to do so.

The Trust has now introduced a DBS Update Service which is a contractual requirement. You need to subscribe when you have applied for your DBS clearance and there is a time limit to subscribe of 19 days after receipt of your DBS disclosure. Please ensure that this is completed within the set time scale.

This update service is an annual subscription at a cost of £13 to you. This will enable the Trust to have instant online access to your DBS record, with your consent, and so will remove the need for you to have to apply for this repeat check again.
