Urogynaecology Specialist Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen within gynaecology for an experienced specialist urogynaecology nurse
You must be a Registered Nurse with full NMC membership & have post registration experience within the speciality.You will be working independently in nurse-led clinics & within a MDT.There will be training opportunities provided
You will be expected to provide evidenced based care in line with current research & guidelines to a defined caseload of patients, including urodynamic studies. You will be a resource to service users & colleagues both in & outside of the Trust.You will participate in teaching, research & audit

The hours are variable between 08:00 & 16:30, Monday-Friday
Following training to assist in the delivery of an expert nursing service for urogynaecology patients
To provide expert nursing advice & support to patients, their families & other healthcare professionals
To ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based nursing care, assessing health related & nursing needs of patients & their families
To manage own patient caseload within nurse led clinics - under supervision of the CNS
To be actively involved in urogynaecology in-patient care, liaising with ward staff to ensure high quality nursing care
To assist in the delivery of a seamless service through MDT processes & communication
To ensure all care is given in accordance with agreed protocols
To follow-up patients under supervision as appropriate & ensure all relevant information is available to enable patients to make an informed choice about their treatment
To actively involve service users in providing feedback of their experience of the current service & suggestions for improvements

The urogynaecology team offers a range of services including one-stop clinics for assessment, investigation & treatment plans; non -surgical management of pelvic floor disorders; specialist nurse & practitioner led clinics; diagnostic flexible cystocoscpy, including IV Botox; bladder instillation treatment; intermittent self-catheterisation & trial without catheter
Recognised and proven interest in continence urogynaecology or female urology
To achieve a range of clinical competencies as required within the Trust and Care Group.
Following training to assist in the delivery of an expert nursing service for urogynaecology patients.
To provide expert nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals
To manage own patient caseload within nurse led clinics - under supervision (direct and indirect) of the Advanced Urogynaecology Practitioner/Consultant
To be actively involved in urogynaecology in-patient care, liaising with ward staff to ensure high quality nursing care
To attend relevant MDT meetings and actively contribute
To assist in the delivery of a seamless service through Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) processes and communication
To ensure all care is given in accordance with agreed protocols
To follow-up patients under supervision as appropriate and ensure all relevant information is available to enable patients to make an informed choice about their treatment
To act as a resource person to others, providing accurate information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and their relatives
To be able to recognise emergency situations and take appropriate action in regard to cardiac arrest, fire and major incident
To participate in any local change programs in order to improve standards and communication links from Acute trust through to Primary Care.
To be aware of the process of operational policy review annually in accordance with national standards
To have knowledge of the Trust Major incident plan and the role of the Women’s and Children’s care group in this procedure
To provide information for clients, carers and heath professional about all aspects of specialist care.
To provide appropriate information and educational literature in order to help patients make informed choices as to their treatment plan and continuing management.
To participate in programs of education and training in according to meet the identified needs of clients, carers and others involved in their care.
To actively participate in educational events provided by the Trust and Primary Care sector.
To attend meetings and conferences as appropriate ensuring that you are fully conversant with current issues within the Trust and nationally
To work with other staff in clinical areas where changes to practice are required. Also, where opportunities exist to improve treatment and support for patients.
To keep updated on clinical and professional developments, attending training courses and appropriate updates.
To be working towards further post registration qualifications relevant to the specialty area
To keep up-to-date with current literature and research in the speciality.
To participate in clinical audit within the Trust as directed
To participate in any appropriate/relevant Trust approved research projects conducted within the department.
To be aware of and actively apply nursing research and evidence-based practice relevant to the specialty.
To undergo and actively participate in your own performance appraisals
Ability to work and prioritise competing demands whilst working under pressure.
Ensure equipment is in good working order and report appropriately when
defective.
Frequent exposure to blood and body fluids.
You may be expected to manoeuvre patients/objects over 15kg using appropriate aids whilst adhering to manual handling guidelines and undertaking appropriate risk assessments.
Responsibility to work within clinical care following required policies and procedures in infection control and COSHH regulations.
To manage own and others time effectively within variable shift patterns.
Ability to work where the work pattern may be unpredictable.
Ability to work where the work pattern may be interrupted but there is also a requirement for concentration e.g. catheterisation, venepuncture.
To understand and provide support during distressing or emotional events.
